Life moves pretty fast
Do you remember the opening scene in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off? He’s rushing down the hallway of his house and looks at the camera and says, ‘Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.’
Especially if you have younger kids, it can be hard to see the light at the end of the proverbial tunnel, yet (and I know you know this) if you don't stop and look around, life with your kids, while you have the most influence, will be over because they will have grown up... So what are a few simple and practical ways we can invest in our kids in 2019 before they grow up?
Commit to spending just a few minutes every day praying for them… take just a few minutes right now to write down 2-3 things you want for each of your kids this year and commit to praying over that. It’s that simple! For a helpful resource if you like to read, reference 'The Praying Life' by Paul Miller, as he genuinely and thoughtfully shares the challenges of prayer especially while parenting a special needs child.
Be in church as often as you can… life is crazy, yet the more you can schedule church, the more often you can attend with your child(ren) and model your imperfect faith in front of them.
Seek out a growth group where you can both get some practical tips for parenting and connect with other parents who are in a similar place in life. We are looking to start a new parent-oriented group on Wednesday nights if Sunday mornings are difficult for you. Check out the Growth Group Spring 2019 booklet for further info once that’s released.
Use the Parent Cue app (see Sept 2018’s blog post for downloading it on your phone) which gives you the best opportunity to find teachable moments with your kids based on what they are learning at Calvary on Sundays.
Let me know how I can help you as you look to help your kids grow to become men and/or women who love Jesus (Call at 561-768-7564 or email at email@example.com)!
